The Eighth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office offers Drug Court as an intensive, treatment-focused diversion program for eligible non-violent offenders. The program is designed to address substance use while holding participants accountable and providing an alternative to traditional prosecution.
How Drug Court Works
Drug Court combines treatment and counseling with strict supervision, regular drug testing and court appearances before a designated judge. Participants are expected to comply with the requirements of the program while working toward recovery and a successful resolution of their criminal charges.
Eligibility
Participation in Drug Court is not automatic. Potential candidates are identified through the criminal case process, and participation may be recommended by the prosecutor and/or defense counsel when Drug Court may be an appropriate resolution.
Acceptance depends on factors including the nature of the pending charges, the individual’s prior criminal history and approval by the Solicitor’s Office. Admission is determined on a case-by-case basis.
Successful Completion
Participants who successfully complete Drug Court may be eligible to have the charges associated with their participation dismissed and may qualify to have the resulting record expunged.
Outcomes depend on the circumstances of the individual case and successful completion of all program requirements.
