Pretrial Intervention

Pretrial Intervention (PTI) is a diversion program designed for eligible first-time offenders charged with non-violent offenses. The program provides participants an opportunity to address their charges through counseling, education, community service and other assigned requirements.

The goal of PTI is to promote accountability while providing eligible participants with an opportunity for a second chance. Successful completion may allow the participant’s arrest record to be expunged. An individual may participate in PTI only once.

Application

For Magistrate and Municipal Court cases, applicants must provide the warrant or ticket and pay a non-refundable $100 application fee by money order. An interview is conducted to gather background information.

For General Sessions cases, the participant pays a $350 participation fee by money order.

Approval

PTI staff contact the parties involved in the case for recommendations, and the Solicitor makes the final decision regarding admission into the program.

If admission is denied, the case returns to court. For Magistrate and Municipal Court cases, participants accepted into PTI must pay a $250 participation fee by money order.

Completion

Participants must successfully complete all assigned program requirements, which may include counseling, education, community service and other conditions.

Upon successful completion, an expungement order for destruction of the arrest record will be processed. Expungement fees apply.
