Greenwood fentanyl dealer sentenced to 18 years in prison

DEMARIO D. CRAWFORD

GREENWOOD, S.C.; May 29, 2026 — A man is headed to prison for nearly two decades after pleading guilty to charges stemming from the 2024 execution of a search warrant at his Greenwood home, 8th Circuit Solicitor David M. Stumbo announced Friday.

Demario D. Crawford, 35, who was scheduled for a jury trial on June 15, pleaded guilty Friday in Greenwood County General Sessions Court to one count of trafficking fentanyl. Circuit Judge William McMaster sentenced Crawford to 18 years in prison. Because of the violent nature of the charge, Crawford will have to serve at least 85percent of the sentence.

The charges stem from a joint investigation conducted by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration and the Greenwood Police Department. The investigation culminated on June 28, 2024 in a search warrant at 109 Montgomery Avenue in Greenwood where officers located 931 fentanyl pills and a pistol in the trunk of Crawford’s vehicle.

The prosecution was handled by Deputy Solicitor Yates Brown, Senior Assistant Solicitor Andrew Hodges, and Assistant Solicitor Abigail Lodge, with the assistance of 8th Circuit Investigator Charlie Cunningham.

Solicitor Stumbo praised the hard work of the Greenwood PD and partner DEA agents in combating the spread of deadly fentanyl pills in Greenwood.

“Fentanyl continues to destroy lives and devastate families throughout our community,” Solicitor Stumbo said. “The amount of fentanyl recovered in this case had the potential to cause devastation and death in Greenwood County. I commend the DEA and Greenwood Police Department for their outstanding investigative work and unwavering commitment to removing these deadly drugs from our streets. Drug traffickers be forewarned: we will continue to aggressively prosecute these cases and seek significant prison sentences.”
